Infoworld NewsInfoWorld: Top NewsBen Lenail's address book has contact information for over 180 Microsoft employees. At first glance, this might not seem significant, but Lenail is an employee of Sun Microsystems, and a year ago a protracted legal battle between the two companies had made communication almost impossible, and a fat Microsoft contact list like Lenail's unthinkable. Microsoft is investigating a new set of potentially serious security flaws in Internet Explorer and Outlook reported by security company eEye Digital Security, the software maker said Friday. A new round of so-called "pharming" attacks is targeting the .com Internet domain, redirecting some Internet users who are looking for .com Web sites to Web pages controlled by the unknown attackers. MCI will consider a new acquisition bid from Qwest Communications International, even though MCI has twice announced its intention to be acquired by Qwest rival, Verizon Communications. Xirrus has launched the next-generation Wireless LAN Array for enterprise Wi-Fi networks. The WLAN Array integrates the functionality of a WLAN switch and up to 16 integrated access points into a single device that delivers Gigabit-class RF bandwidth. The WLAN architecture's array controller features a 2Gbps switching fabric that controls the packet flows of the integrated access points and provides complete spectrum management. The WLAN's directionalized antenna system offers increased rate and range in all directions. The architecture also features tri-mode 802.11 a/b/g support for existing and emerging mobile devices. |
